Welcome back to Unvisited Lands! This is a short post, but I'm excited about it because today (Feb. 8) is the birthday of a dear friend and today's poem is all about friendship.

I wrote this poem a little while ago when I was thinking about the beauty that God has designed for our friendships with fellow brothers and sisters in Christ. The Bible describes the special kind of fellowship that we can experience with one another as one that should transcend culture, personality differences, and a host of other barriers. It is supposed to be a joyful, humble, and close-knit relationship.

I know that sometimes this isn't always the case, which is a heavy and sad thing. Hopefully there are times, however, when we can look back and see that our dear brothers and sisters in the Lord have been gifts by Jesus. When I wrote this poem, I was awed by the fact that Jesus can bring together different people and give them a special kind of unity and deep love that comes from His blood, that He's adopted us into His family. I pray that you are able to experience this kind of encouragement with brothers and sisters in Christ.

That's why I wanted to share this short poem on my dear friend's birthday. She has been such an encouragement to me! I am so thankful for the gift of family in Jesus--and for God's own perfect, never-failing Friendship.

KINDRED SPIRITS

There is a port down by the ocean White sails on sparkling shoals The sky at dusk is pink and rust I hear the ship's bells toll

A storm on the horizon In driving sheets of rain Grey waters crash but the lighthouse flash Shall bring us all back home again

We've found a kindred spirit It's hope in turbulent seas Music for those who hear it Fresh air so we can breathe

In the darkness of our sorrow When driving rains deluge Come, our brothers and sisters He's making our hearts brand-new
